Real Estate prices have increased by 87% from 1996 to 1999 fuelled primarily by limited new housing supply and net positive inward migration of 50,000 people in the last year. Ireland has one of the highest rates of home ownership in the world currently standing at 85% and 95% of house sales are handled by qualified property professionals. Second hand house prices reached on average IR£155,000 nationally and IR£200,000 in Dublin during 2000. Mortgage interest rates have reached an all time low of 4.5% in 2001 and is a major factor underpinning the market.
